The subject Physiology deals with the functions of the different organs and organ system; and their inter-relationship, necessary for the survival of the body as a whole. For the students of BDS 1st year we used to emphasize more about the physiology of cell, composition of body, the blood & nerve & the muscles. We also taught about various systems like CVS, respiratory system, GIT, CNS, endocrine/reproduction etc. with relatively more stress on blood pressure, pain physiology and calcium metabolism. With the knowledge of normal functions of the human body, the students will be able to co-relate the derangements being taught in higher disciplines like pathology.
For practicals, the department of physiology has two well equipped labs, one hematology lab to carry out experiments of normal blood and another Human lab to teach the students to measure blood pressure and how to examine different systems like respiratory system, CVS, sensory/motor system etc. This training helps the students for examining the patients in subject like medicine & surgery.
