Shree Bankey Bihari Dental College and Research Centre

The Department of Oral Pathology deals with the abnormal histological structures of the tissues, the morphological features of the teeth and also the diseased tissues of the oral cavity. The students are exposed to the normal features during 2nd BDS in Dental Anatomy & Dental Histology, which is an auxiliary subject of oral pathology. The diseases affecting these normal structures are studied in Oral Pathology during the 3rd BDS. Any tumor or diseased tissue can be separated or aspirated and a ‘BIOPSY’ can be done to diagnose the disease. The Department of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology caters mainly to the patients who are referred for oral biopsy investigations. These investigations are done by the expert technician under the surveillance of the Oral Pathologist.

Latest instruments have been procured and are being further procured for immunological investigations. The Department besides being equipped with latest instruments has a research microscope with CCD is being used. It serves a dual purpose i.e. reporting of slides as well as a training and demonstration media to the undergraduates. Attached to the department, is a museum consisting of models (of dental hard tissues), and specimens for teaching purposes. Interns and Junior Residents are posted in this department and are given training in the routine lab investigative procedures.

  • Cytopathologic Reporting.
