The department of Pedodontics and preventive dentistry is very well equipped with latest technology and providing advanced dental treatment and care. The department consists of colorful child friendly operatory, counseling room, play area, with X-ray room.
The teaching staff is well trained and dedicated towards teaching the students as well as in handling the patients. Preventive dentistry is one of the most important aspect of dental treatment. We provide primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for children till adolescence including those with special health care needs. The treatment carried out on children includes habit breaking appliances, Interceptive orthodontics treatment, space maintainers, Pediatric prosthodontics, management of developmentally disabled and medically compromised children etc.
Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry is a subject that deals with the care and treatment of children’s teeth. It is thus an age defined specialty. The department is of the firm belief that “every child has a fundamental right to total oral health” and strives towards achieving this end.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry provides undergraduate & post graduate training in comprehensive oral health care for pediatric patients. The Department operates a general pediatric clinic, and a specialty pediatric clinic. Faculty provides leadership in the field by conducting research and other scholarly activity. The mission of our pediatric dental clinics reflects our belief that children deserve the best of oral health care. We offer a full spectrum of services for all children at every stage of their lives from infancy through adolescence including those with special and complex oral health needs, and patients with special developmental and behavioral care needs. Our clinics provide comprehensive oral health examinations, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorative procedures (fillings, crowns, etc.), extractions and minor surgical procedures, space-maintainers, athletic mouth guard, teeth whitening (for adolescents), interceptive orthodontic when applicable, and urgent care (trauma, infection, etc.). These services can be completed using inhalation sedation (Nitrous oxide), moderate sedation, and general anesthesia. The Department also performs full mouth rehabilitation under General Anesthesia in collaboration with Department of Anesthesia, Saraswati Medical College regularly for young uncooperative children suffering from early childhood caries. Apart from regular out- patient consultation the department also conducts school dental health camps and various other programmes for the care and treatment of children’s teeth. In short, it caters to the dental needs of pediatric patients.
